DMEM Low Glucose (with L-glu and Sodium pyruvate)
Product Details
DMEM (Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium) is a widely used basal medium that can support the growth of many types of mammalian cells. Cells successfully cultured in DMEM include primary fibroblasts, neurons, glial cells, HUVEC, smooth muscle cells, and cell lines such as Hela, 293, Cos-7, and PC-12. DMEM medium was originally designed with a glucose content of 1000 mg/L (low glucose type), and later developed into a high glucose type with a glucose content of 4500 mg/L (high glucose type), which is now widely used for the culture of various cells. Low glucose DMEM is more suitable for the culture of slow-metabolizing, adherent cells.
Product Advantages
DMEM differs from other media in that it contains four times the concentration of amino acids and vitamins compared to the original Eagle's Minimum Essential Medium. DMEM was originally formulated with a low concentration of glucose (1000 mg/L) and sodium pyruvate, but is commonly used in high glucose environments with or without sodium pyruvate. DMEM does not contain proteins, lipids, or growth factors. Therefore, DMEM requires nutrient supplementation, usually with 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS). DMEM uses a sodium bicarbonate buffering system (3700 mg/L) and therefore requires a 5% - 10% CO2 environment to maintain physiological pH.
